HD Series
Drawer Loadtest Results
How
the Data was Obtained
-
The
weights used in the test were steel plates 8" x 17"
-
Each
plate weighed 5.12 pounds.
-
The
plates were stacked one on top of the other in the locations shown.
-
A
"hanging" scale was attached to the drawer pull on the front
of the drawer to measure the pounds of force to open the drawer and
to keep the drawer moving at the distance shown.
-
The
Toolbox was mounted on a level test table. The results in the lab
should be similar to the results in the fields, the back of a level
pick up truck.
How
the Data Should be Interpreted
- This test
was done in controlled conditions.
- The weights
used were steel blanks. It is unlikely that you would be carrying materials
as dense as these steel blanks.
- The model
tested was a 72" box. Similar results will be obtained on other
models.
Facts
About the HD Roller System
- The drawer
rides on 3 or 4 sets of wheels mounted on the frame of the shell.
- There
are 2 wheels at the back of each drawer that ride on a channel mounted
on the shell.
- As the
drawer is opened, the front of the drawer may tilt down slightly, until
the wheels riding in the channel become top bearing, instead of bottom
bearing.
- As the
drawer is opened, the drawer is supported by fewer wheels. The further
you pull the drawer out, the more concentrated the load on the wheels
become.
